Greyhound Speed: Carmel's CB Drill for 6A Success

๐Ÿ“ Carmel GreyhoundsยทSunday, July 5, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Cornerbacks at 6A programs like Carmel's Greyhounds require elite speed and agility to stay with top receivers. To improve their game-day performance, Coach Thompson recommends the following drill: 'Shuttle Sprints with Plant and Drive'. Set up four cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Start at cone 1, sprint to cone 2, plant your outside foot, and drive back to cone 1. Focus on explosive acceleration, quick changes of direction, and maintaining top-end speed. This drill translates to game performance by improving a CB's ability to quickly close gaps and stay with receivers on out routes. It also enhances their reaction time and agility in tight spaces.
