Warrior Linebacker Drill: 'Read and React' to Dominate 6A Competition
At Warren Central Warriors, our linebackers will be put to the test with a challenging drill designed to improve their ability to read and react to plays. The 'Read and React' drill involves setting up four cones in a quadrilateral formation, with two cones 5 yards apart and two cones 10 yards apart. Players will start at the 10-yard cone and react to a coach's call, either 'run' or 'pass.' If 'run,' they must quickly close the 5-yard gap and make a tackle. If 'pass,' they must quickly close the 10-yard gap and get into position to defend a pass. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the quarterback' and 'react quickly.' This drill translates to game performance by improving our linebackers' ability to quickly diagnose and react to plays, giving us a competitive edge in 6A competition.
