Warrior Speed: Warren Central's S-Player Drill for Explosive Separation
At Warren Central, our 6A Warriors are gearing up for a speed-focused summer camp. One key drill for our S-players is the 'Shuttle-Sprint-Change' (SSC) exercise. The SSC drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players line up 10 yards apart, then sprint to the next cone, change direction, and shuttle back to the starting point. On the third rep, add a 5-yard sprint to the side, mimicking a defender's pursuit. Coaching cues: 'Quick feet, explosive drive,' and 'Change direction, don't lose speed.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S-players' ability to separate from defenders and quickly change direction. It also enhances their acceleration and deceleration skills, essential for success in 6A football.
