Greyhound Block Drill: Building Strength and Technique for Carmel's 6A OL
To prepare Carmel's 6A OL for the upcoming season, Coach Thompson recommends the Greyhound Block Drill. This drill targets the upper body, specifically the chest, shoulders, and triceps. Set up a series of five 10-yard blocks, spaced evenly apart. OL players will perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on proper footwork and hand placement. Coaching cues include: 'Drive through the block,' 'Keep your elbows high,' and 'Finish with power.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL's ability to generate power and speed in their blocks. It also enhances their ability to quickly change direction and maintain control in tight spaces. By incorporating the Greyhound Block Drill into their pre-season training, Carmel's OL will be well-prepared to take on the competition.
