CB Drills: Carmel Greyhounds' 6A Prep

๐Ÿ“ Carmel GreyhoundsยทSaturday, July 11, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Carmel High School, cornerbacks are putting in the work this summer with a drill designed to improve their reaction time and foot speed. The 'Ladder Shuffle' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest in between. Players start in a 3-point stance, then quickly move their feet through a ladder, shuffling from one side to the other. As they exit the ladder, they must immediately pivot and change direction, mimicking a defender reacting to a receiver's cut. Coaching cues emphasize quick feet and explosive acceleration. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to react faster to receivers' moves and stay in phase with their assignments. It's a key component of Carmel's summer training program, and one that will pay dividends come Friday nights.
