Warren Central Warriors DEs: Master the 'Rush and React' Drill
FridayNightPulse's exclusive training tip for 6A defensive ends. This drill focuses on quickness, agility, and reaction time, essential for dominating on the edge. Divide DEs into pairs, with one player as the 'rusher' and the other as the 'blocker.' Set up a 10-yard line with cones or markers. The blocker will stand 5 yards behind the line, while the rusher starts 5 yards back. On the whistle, the blocker will sprint forward, and the rusher must quickly react, using a 3-step 'shuffle, step, and strike' technique to close the gap. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Shuffle, not slide,' 'Keep your eyes on the blocker,' and 'Finish with power.' This drill translates to game performance by improving DEs' ability to quickly close the gap and make tackles for loss.
