Unlock Cathedral's Dominance: WR Drill for Summer Camp
At the top 5A programs like Cathedral Fighting Irish, wide receivers must be prepared to separate from defenders and create separation. One drill to achieve this is the 'Route Box Drill.' Divide the WRs into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. Set up four cones in a box shape, with each cone 5 yards apart. The receiver starts at one end of the box, and the defender starts at the other end. On the coach's signal, the receiver runs a 5-yard out route, a 5-yard in route, and a 5-yard up route, all while the defender tries to stay in front. The receiver must use footwork and body positioning to create separation. Run 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by teaching receivers to quickly change direction and create separation from defenders.
