FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Cathedral Fighting Irish TE Drill

๐Ÿ“ Cathedral Fighting IrishยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve blocking and pass-catching skills for 5A tight ends, Cathedral Fighting Irish head coach Mike Kirsch recommends the 'Box Drill.' Divide players into pairs, with one TE and one defensive lineman. Set up a 5-yard box with cones. The TE must start in a 3-point stance, then explode into a block, using a 'hands inside' technique, focusing on driving their feet and generating power from their legs. The DL will attempt to shed the block. After a 10-second reset, the TE will release into a pass route, focusing on quick footwork and separation. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to create contact and get open down the field.
