Explosive Acceleration Drill for 5A Running Backs

At the Westfield Shamrocks' summer camp, our focus is on developing elite-level speed and agility for our running backs. One key drill that translates to game performance is the 10-Yard Box Drill. This drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps. Each rep starts with the RB in a 3-point stance, then exploding out of the box for 5 yards, planting their outside foot, and accelerating to a 10-yard sprint finish. Coaching cues include 'quick feet,' 'explosive drive,' and 'finish strong.' This drill works on the RB's ability to quickly change direction, accelerate, and maintain top-end speed. In games, this translates to breaking tackles and turning short gains into big plays.
