Kicking into Shape: Carmel Greyhounds' Kicker Prep Drill
High school kickers at 6A programs like Carmel Greyhounds need to be prepared for the demands of the season. To improve their accuracy and power, we're sharing a drill that targets the key muscles involved in kicking. The 'Kicking Circle Drill' involves having the kicker stand in a circle (approximately 10 feet in diameter) with their dominant foot on the inside of the circle. The coach then places a target (such as a kicking tee) on the outside of the circle. The kicker must kick the ball through the target for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cue: 'Keep your eyes on the target and snap your ankle through the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to focus and generate power from their ankle and hip. It's a simple yet effective way to build confidence and accuracy.
