Center Grove CBs: Master the 'Mirror Man' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Center Grove TrojansยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Cornerbacks at 6A programs like Center Grove face a unique challenge: staying one step ahead of speedy receivers. To improve reaction time and footwork, Coach Thompson recommends the 'Mirror Man' drill. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards beyond the second. Have the CB start at the first cone, then react to a coach's signal to sprint to the second cone. Immediately, the coach will signal again, and the CB must mirror the coach's movements, staying in sync with the cone drill. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Stay low, stay light,' and 'Mirror my movements.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the CB's ability to read the quarterback's eyes and react to the receiver's movement. It also enhances agility and quickness, essential for staying with faster opponents.
