FridayNightPulse: Expert Drill for 6A Defensive Ends
At the top 6A programs like Center Grove Trojans, defensive ends need to possess a combination of speed, agility, and strength to dominate on the field. One effective drill to improve these skills is the 'Shuttle Ladder Blast.'
**Setup:** Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 feet between each rung. Divide the DEs into pairs, with one player at the top of the ladder and the other at the bottom.
**Drill:** The player at the top of the ladder starts in a 3-point stance, then explosively jumps to the first rung, landing softly on the balls of their feet. They immediately transition into a sprint, running to the bottom of the ladder, and then back up to the top, repeating the process for 3 sets of 10 reps.
**Coaching Cues:** 'Fast feet, explosive jump,' and 'Land soft, drive hard.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate off the line of scrimmage, making them a more formidable pass rusher and run defender.
