Firebirds Break Ground on $2M Facility Upgrade

๐Ÿ“ Lawrence Free State FirebirdsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Lawrence Free State Firebirds, a 6A program in Lawrence, broke ground on a $2 million facility upgrade Thursday. The Firebirds finished 5-5 last season in the Sunflower League. The new facility will feature state-of-the-art locker rooms and a renovated weight room. The upgrade is expected to boost recruiting and competitiveness for the Firebirds, who have struggled to keep up with rival programs in recent years. The Firebirds have a strong tradition of producing talented players, but have often fallen short in the playoffs. The new facility is expected to give them a much-needed edge in the competitive 6A classification. The Firebirds open the season Aug. 25 against Olathe North.
