The Blue Valley Northwest Huskies' special teams unit is gearing up for the 2026 season with a focus on speed and agility. One drill that's been making waves in the offseason is the 3-Step Speed Drill, designed specifically for kickers and punters. Coach Thompson recommends the following setup: 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, take 2 steps forward, then explosively jump into a 3-point stance, mimicking the motion of a punt return. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'explosive jump.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time and explosiveness on punt returns. It's a simple yet effective way to build speed and agility in the offseason.
