Firebirds Soar into New Era with $3M Facility Upgrade
The Lawrence Free State Firebirds, a 6A powerhouse with a 2023 postseason appearance, are set to take flight into the 2026 season with a state-of-the-art facility upgrade. The $3 million project, slated for completion before the start of fall practice, will feature upgraded locker rooms, a renovated weight room and a cutting-edge video analysis suite. The upgrade is expected to give the Firebirds a significant recruiting edge, attracting top talent from the Kansas City metro area. As one of the top programs in the Sunflower League, the Firebirds will face stiff competition from perennial powers like Olathe North and Blue Valley North. With the new facility, head coach Mike Evans is optimistic about the team's chances in the highly competitive 6A classification.
