Unlock Explosive Speed: The Firebird Fly Drill for K Players
As the 6A season approaches, Lawrence Free State Firebirds' K players are gearing up for a dominant year. To unlock explosive speed, Coach Thompson recommends the Firebird Fly Drill. This drill targets the crucial transition from explosion to top-end speed. Set up four cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, explode through the first two cones, and then accelerate to top speed through the final two cones. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Fly, don't run,' and 'Keep your head down, eyes up.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the ability to explosively change direction and accelerate to the ball. By mastering the Firebird Fly Drill, K players will be ready to take on the competition.
