Firebirds' Flag Football Talent Seeks New Opportunities Amidst KSHSAA Expansion
As the University Interscholastic League's (KSHSAA) flag football pilot district expansion creates new pathways for Texas athletes, the Lawrence Free State Firebirds are capitalizing on opportunities beyond their state lines. With the University of Nebraska's inaugural 2028 season on the horizon, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, the Big Ten powerhouse is poised to offer scholarships to top female flag football talent. Meanwhile, NAIA programs like Ottawa University, Kansas, and Keiser University, Florida, are actively recruiting and offering up to 12 scholarships. Midland University, Nebraska, is also an active recruiter. UT Arlington, a developing NCAA D1 program, is not yet offering scholarships. Firebirds' players can explore these verified scholarship pathways by contacting coaches directly and showcasing their skills through highlight tapes.
