Derby Panthers Tight End Training Tip: 'Rope Drill' for Blocking Dominance
Tight ends at 6A programs like the Derby Panthers need to be versatile and physical in order to excel in the passing game and as blockers. To improve their blocking technique, we recommend incorporating the 'Rope Drill' into your summer training regimen. The drill involves setting up two cones 5 yards apart, with a resistance band or rope looped around them. The TE will start on one side of the cones and attempt to drive through the rope, focusing on keeping their shoulders square and their feet shoulder-width apart. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest in between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to generate power and control in their blocks, allowing them to seal the edge and create running lanes for their backs.
