Explosive Edge Rush: A Summer Camp Drill for 6A Defensive Ends
Lawrence Free State Firebirds defensive ends, get ready to take your edge rush to the next level. This summer camp drill focuses on building explosive power and speed off the line. Set up a 10-yard box with two cones, 5 yards apart. Players start in a 3-point stance, hands on the ground. On the whistle, they explosively jump up, landing in a pass-rushing stance. From there, they sprint 5 yards, then immediately change direction, sprinting back to the starting point. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Explode off the line!' and 'Change direction quickly!' This drill translates to game performance by improving a DE's ability to quickly close the gap and make tackles for loss. It also enhances their speed and agility, allowing them to chase down ball carriers.
