As the KHSAA announces its plan to expand its flag football pilot program to more districts in Texas, athletes from Covington Catholic Colonels are taking note of the potential new scholarship pathways. The Colonels' girls flag football team has been a force to be reckoned with in 5A competition, and several players are now eyeing opportunities at schools that offer verified flag football scholarships. The University of Nebraska, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, is set to launch its inaugural 2028 season with Power 4 status. Ottawa University, Kansas, is a national powerhouse with up to 12 scholarships available. Keiser University, Florida, and Midland University, Nebraska, are also active recruiters in the flag football space. Meanwhile, UT Arlington is developing its program, although scholarships are not yet available.
