Explosive Speed Development for 6A Kicker

๐Ÿ“ St. Xavier TigersยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Kickers at top 6A programs like St. Xavier's Tigers need to possess explosive speed to reach the end zone on kickoffs and convert field goals. One effective drill to improve this is the 'Ladder Weave and Hop.' Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. Have the kicker perform 3 sets of 10 reps, weaving through the ladder with their feet and then hopping over each rung. Coaching cues include keeping the head up, driving through the feet, and exploding out of the weave. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate downfield. It also enhances their reaction time and agility, allowing them to make split-second decisions on kickoff coverage.
