Agility Ladder Drill for 5A Linebackers: Preparing for the Gridiron

๐Ÿ“ Covington Catholic ColonelsยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Covington Catholic Colonels, our linebackers are gearing up for the 2026 season with a high-intensity agility ladder drill that targets speed, agility, and reaction time. The 'Ladder Weave' drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then weave through a ladder with their feet, focusing on quick footwork and explosive acceleration. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, not fast hands' and 'Keep your eyes up, stay focused.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a linebacker's ability to quickly change direction and pursue the ball carrier. By incorporating the Ladder Weave into their pre-season training, Covington Catholic's linebackers will be better equipped to tackle the competition and make game-changing plays.
