Building a Stronger St. Xavier Tiger: The 3-Box Drill

๐Ÿ“ St. Xavier TigersยทSaturday, July 4, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the St. Xavier Tigers prepare for another dominant season, Coach Mike offers a drill to improve power and agility in their 6A program. The 3-Box Drill targets explosive acceleration and deceleration. Set up three boxes or cones 5 yards apart. Players start at the first box, then sprint to the second box, immediately changing direction to decelerate and accelerate through the third box. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Quick feet, quick hands' for acceleration, and 'Slow down, then launch' for deceleration. This drill translates to game performance by improving the ability to quickly change direction and maintain speed, a crucial skill for Tigers' linemen and linebackers. By incorporating the 3-Box Drill into their pre-season training, St. Xavier can expect to see improved agility and power on the field.
