Tightening Up: A Summer Drill for 6A TE's
As the St. Xavier Tigers prepare for another dominant season, their tight end group is putting in the work to become a force to be reckoned with. One key drill that's been making waves in their summer camp is the 'Route Box Drill'. This high-intensity exercise targets the TE's ability to quickly change direction, secure passes, and create separation from defenders. To run the drill, set up four cones in a 5-yard square, with each corner spaced 2.5 yards apart. Have the TE start at one corner and run a 5-yard out route, then quickly pivot and run a 5-yard in route. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on explosive cuts and secure catches. This drill translates to game performance by replicating the quick decision-making and agility required to beat defenders in tight spaces.
