Trinity Shamrocks TE Drill: 'Route Runner'
FridayNightPulse: Get ahead of the competition with this summer training tip for 6A TE's. The 'Route Runner' drill is designed to improve route running, footwork, and hands. Set up four cones in a square formation, 5 yards apart. Divide your TEs into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. The receiver starts at the top of the square, and the defender starts at the bottom. On the whistle, the receiver runs a 5-yard out route, and the defender tries to stay in front. The receiver must sell the route and use footwork to create separation. Run 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cue: 'Sell the route, don't just run.' This drill translates to game performance by improving TEs' ability to create separation and get open against defenders.
