Summer Training Tip: WR Quick Release Drill for 6A Programs
For wide receivers at 6A programs like Male Bulldogs, developing a quick release is crucial for creating separation from defenders. The Quick Release Drill targets this skill, focusing on rapid footwork and release timing. Set up three cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, then sprint to the second, planting their outside foot and immediately releasing a ball to a target or coach. The coach or target should be 10 yards away, and the ball should be released within 2-3 seconds of reaching the second cone. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'release on the plant.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing receivers to create space and get off the line quickly, making them more effective in the passing game.
