Boyle County Rebels Linebacker Drill: 'Shut Down the Gate'
As the Boyle County Rebels prepare for the upcoming 4A season, linebackers will focus on a crucial drill to improve their ability to shut down the opponent's running game. The 'Shut Down the Gate' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players will line up in a 3-point stance, 5 yards off the line of scrimmage, and react to a ball carrier bursting through the gate (a designated area). Coaches will use the following cues: 'Gate, gate, gate' to signal the start, and 'Shut it down' to emphasize the tackle. This drill translates to game performance by teaching linebackers to quickly recognize and react to the ball carrier's movement, allowing them to make crucial tackles and shut down the opponent's running game.
