Speed Training for 6A S Players: The 3-Cone Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Trinity ShamrocksยทFriday, July 17, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the 2026 season approaches, speed and agility training has become a crucial aspect of 6A programs like Trinity Shamrocks. One effective drill to improve S players' quickness and reaction time is the 3-Cone Shuttle. This drill requires three cones placed in a triangular formation, with the player starting at one cone and shuffling to the next, then back to the first cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive acceleration' and 'quick change of direction.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to read and react to the quarterback's signals, as well as their ability to stay with receivers on deep routes. By incorporating the 3-Cone Shuttle into your summer training program, S players can gain a competitive edge on the field.
