FridayNightPulse: WR Drill for Success at 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Male BulldogsยทSunday, July 19, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 6A programs like Male Bulldogs, wide receivers need to be prepared for the physicality and speed of the game. One drill that can help is the 'Route Box Drill'. Set up a 10x10 grid on the field with cones. Divide the WRs into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. The receiver starts at one corner of the grid and must run a series of routes (5-yard out, 10-yard in, 5-yard fly) while the defender tries to stay in front. The coach provides coaching cues such as 'stay low' and 'keep your eyes on the defender'. The drill is done for 3 sets of 10 reps. This drill translates to game performance by improving the WR's ability to quickly change direction and maintain speed while being covered by a defender.
