St. Xavier Tigers WRs Get Ready for 6A Showdown with 'Route Runner' Drill

๐Ÿ“ St. Xavier TigersยทMonday, July 20, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The St. Xavier Tigers' passing game is a force to be reckoned with in 6A, and it starts with their talented wide receivers. To prepare for the upcoming season, Tigers WR coach, Mike Smith, has developed the 'Route Runner' drill to improve speed, agility, and route-running precision. The drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start at the line of scrimmage, then sprint 10 yards, cutting sharply to the left or right, and ending at a designated 'route' cone. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'eyes on the target.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to separate from defenders and get into position for throws. It's a must-try for any 6A program looking to elevate their passing game.
