Summer WR Drills for 6A Programs: 'Route Box' Workout

๐Ÿ“ Male BulldogsยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For wide receivers at 6A programs like Male Bulldogs, a key to success lies in precise route running and quick separation from defenders. One effective drill to improve these skills is the 'Route Box' workout. Set up a 10x10 yard grid with cones or markers, dividing it into four quadrants. Players will start in one quadrant and sprint to the adjacent one, performing a specific route (e.g., out, in, or slant) before returning to the starting point. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick footwork and explosive acceleration. Coaching cues include 'explosive release' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a receiver's ability to quickly change direction and create separation from defenders, ultimately leading to more open receptions and bigger plays.
