Summer Sprints: Edna Karr's WR Drill for Speed and Separation

๐Ÿ“ Edna Karr CougarsยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Edna Karr High School, WR coach Jamal Johnson is emphasizing speed and separation for his 4A Cougars. One key drill is the 'Route Sprints' workout. Players will line up 10 yards apart, with cones marking the 5-yard and 15-yard points. On the whistle, they sprint to the 15-yard point, then immediately transition into a 5-yard cut, mimicking a slant route. After the cut, they sprint back to the starting point. Coaches will provide cues like 'quick feet' and 'stay low' to emphasize speed and agility. Aim for 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly change direction and create separation from defenders, making them more effective in the open field.
