Speed and Agility for 4A S Players: The L-Drill
For Edna Karr Cougars and other 4A programs, developing speed and agility in S players is crucial for success on the field. One effective drill to incorporate into your summer camp is the L-Drill. This drill targets acceleration, deceleration, and change of direction. Set up two cones in an L-shape, with the first cone 5 yards from the starting point and the second cone 10 yards from the first cone. S players will start at the first cone, sprint to the second cone, then immediately change direction and sprint back to the starting point. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive start,' 'quick transition,' and 'aggressive turn.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly close gaps and change direction on the field, making them more effective tacklers and ball carriers.
