Route Running Mastery: Edna Karr Cougars' WR Drill

๐Ÿ“ Edna Karr CougarsยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Edna Karr Cougars' coaching staff has developed a drill to improve their 4A wide receivers' route running skills. The 'Slant and Go' drill involves three sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players line up 5 yards off the line of scrimmage, with a defender 3 yards off the line. On the snap, the receiver runs a 3-yard slant route, then immediately breaks outside for a 5-yard go route. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'keep your eyes on the quarterback.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to create separation and adjust to coverage. By practicing the slant and go combination, receivers can develop the speed and agility needed to succeed in the 4A playoffs.
