FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Positioning Drill for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ St. Augustine Purple KnightsยทMonday, July 13, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the 2026 season approaches, Tight End (TE) coaches at 4A programs like St. Augustine Purple Knights are looking for ways to improve their players' positioning and route running skills. One effective drill to achieve this is the 'Route Box Drill'. Divide players into groups of 3-4 and set up a 10-yard box with cones. Players start at the line of scrimmage and must run a 5-yard out route, then immediately cut back to the line of scrimmage and run a 5-yard in route. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the quarterback' and 'hands up, ready to catch'. This drill translates to game performance by improving TEs' ability to quickly read coverage and adjust their routes accordingly.
