Speed and Agility for S Players: The L-Cone Drill
For 4A programs like Edna Karr Cougars, developing speed and agility in S players is crucial for success on the field. One effective drill to improve these skills is the L-Cone drill. Set up three cones in an L-shape, with the player starting at the top of the L. On the coach's signal, the player sprints to the first cone, then makes a sharp cut to the second cone, and finally accelerates to the third cone. The player repeats this pattern for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include ' explosion off the line,' 'stay low and balanced,' and 'change direction quickly.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the player's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate, making them a more effective defender and ball carrier. By incorporating the L-Cone drill into their training regimen, S players can gain a competitive edge on the field.
