At St. Augustine High School, Purple Knights' wide receivers are gearing up for a dominant 4A season. To achieve this, WR coach, Mike Thompson, has developed a drill to improve release off the line. The 'Quick Release' drill involves 3 sets of 10 reps. Players start in a 3-point stance, hands on hips. On the whistle, they explode into a sprint, releasing their hands to a 45-degree angle, focusing on speed and separation. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, fast hands,' and 'Release, don't push.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing WRs to quickly get off the line, creating separation from defenders, and gaining a speed advantage. By mastering the 'Quick Release,' Purple Knights' WRs will be unstoppable in the 4A division.
