Unlock Elite Quarterback Performance: The 'Read and React' Drill
At St. Augustine Purple Knights, our 4A program is gearing up for a championship season. One key drill that's helping our quarterbacks take their game to the next level is the 'Read and React' drill. This exercise focuses on quick decision-making and accuracy under pressure. Here's how to run it: Set up three receivers in a triangle formation, 10 yards apart. The quarterback starts in the shotgun position and reads the defense, then reacts by throwing to the receiver who's open. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick releases and accurate throws. As the quarterback gets comfortable, increase the difficulty by adding a blitzing defender or a coverage change. This drill translates to game performance by forcing the quarterback to read the defense and make split-second decisions, a crucial skill for success in the 4A playoffs.
