Elevate Your End Zone Presence: A TE Drill for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ St. Augustine Purple KnightsยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For tight ends at 4A programs like St. Augustine Purple Knights, mastering the 'Box Out' drill can significantly improve their in-game performance. This drill focuses on a TE's ability to seal the edge and create space for their quarterback. To set up the drill, divide your team into pairs with one TE and one defensive end. The TE will start in a 3-point stance, with the defensive end lined up 5 yards off the ball. On the coach's signal, the TE will explode off the ball, sealing the edge with their outside foot and creating a box out with their inside hand. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'seal the edge' and 'create space.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to effectively block and clear a path for their quarterback, making them a more valuable asset in the red zone.
