Everett Crimson Tide DEs: Master the 'Rush and React' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Everett Crimson TideยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Div I DEs at Everett Crimson Tide can elevate their game with the 'Rush and React' drill. The objective: develop explosive acceleration and quick reaction time. Set up a 10-yard zone with cones. DEs line up 5 yards from the line of scrimmage. On the whistle, they rush 5 yards, then immediately react to a coach's direction (e.g., 'inside' or 'outside'). The DE must change direction and pursue a ball carrier or bag. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 2 minutes between sets. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, quick hands!' and 'React, don't react, REACT!' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the rapid changes in direction DEs face on the field. It also enhances their ability to read the offense and make split-second decisions.
