Elevate Your QB Play: The Xaverian Brothers Hawks' Pre-Season Quick Release Drill
As the high school football season approaches, quarterbacks at top programs like the Xaverian Brothers Hawks are putting in the work to refine their skills. One key area of focus is the quick release, which can be the difference-maker in high-pressure situations. To improve their QBs' ability to deliver the ball quickly and accurately, the Hawks' coaching staff has implemented a drill that targets the quick release. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with each rep lasting 10 seconds. The QB starts in the shotgun formation, takes 3 steps back, and then releases the ball to a receiver 10 yards downfield. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the target' and 'release the ball as soon as you take the third step.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing QBs to develop muscle memory and react quickly to defensive pressure.
