Summer Speed Drills for S Players: The 'Shuttle Shuffle'
At top Div I programs like Everett Crimson Tide, S players are expected to be elite in speed, agility, and reaction time. One effective drill to improve these skills is the 'Shuttle Shuffle.' This drill involves setting up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards beyond the second cone. Players start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone, shuffle to the third cone, and backpedal to the starting point. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a player's ability to quickly close gaps and change direction on the field. It also enhances their reaction time, allowing them to stay with receivers and make plays on the ball.
