At top Div I programs like Xaverian Brothers Hawks, linebackers are pushed to their limits in the 'Bull in the Ring' drill. This intense workout targets speed, agility, and reaction time. Set up a 10-yard diameter circle with cones. One linebacker starts in the center, while another lines up 5 yards outside the circle. The coach yells 'go' and the outside linebacker sprints towards the center player, who must quickly change direction and pursue. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues include 'stay low' and 'eyes on the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing linebackers to rapidly close gaps and make tackles in tight spaces.
