LB Prospects: What Coaches Look for on Junior Day Visits
When Catholic Memorial Eagles and other top Div I programs invite LB prospects to junior day visits, coaches are evaluating more than just athleticism. They're assessing a player's football IQ, work ethic and ability to adapt to their system. Coaches look for prospects who can quickly grasp complex defensive schemes and make adjustments on the fly. One key metric: a prospect's ability to diagnose and react to zone-read plays. Coaches want to see LBs who can identify the quarterback's intention and flow to the ball carrier in 2.5 seconds or less. To prepare, study film of top LBs in your position group and practice identifying zone-reads in 7-on-7 drills. Show coaches you can process information quickly and make decisive decisions on the field.
