FridayNightPulse: Xaverian Brothers Hawks LB Drill for Speed and Agility

๐Ÿ“ Xaverian Brothers HawksยทTuesday, July 28, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top Div I programs like the Xaverian Brothers Hawks, linebackers need to be quick and agile to stay with the fast-paced offenses. To improve their speed and agility, coaches are running a drill that targets the 5-10 yard shuttle. The drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. The player starts in a 3-point stance, then quickly changes direction to run to the left and right, back to the starting position. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'change of direction'. This drill translates to game performance by allowing linebackers to quickly close gaps and stay in front of ball carriers. It also helps them to anticipate and react to plays in the backfield, making them more effective tacklers.
