Speed and Agility for S Players: The 5-Yard Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ St. Frances Academy PanthersยทSaturday, July 4, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For S players at MIAA programs like St. Frances Academy Panthers, developing speed and agility is crucial for success on the field. One effective drill to improve these skills is the 5-Yard Shuttle. This drill requires players to quickly change direction, explosively accelerating from a dead stop to top speed. To set up the drill, mark two points 5 yards apart. Have players start at one point, then explosively accelerate to the other point, immediately changing direction and returning to the starting point. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive start,' 'quick transition,' and 'aggressive finish.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a player's ability to quickly close gaps and change direction in pursuit of the ball.
