FridayNightPulse Training Tip: RB Power through Contact Drill
For MIAA programs like St. Frances Academy Panthers, developing a powerful running back requires more than just speed and agility. To improve RBs' ability to break tackles and gain extra yards, we recommend the 'Power through Contact' drill. Set up a series of cones to create a 10-yard zone. Have the RB start at the line of scrimmage, then sprint through the zone while being tackled by a defender. Focus on staying low, driving through the contact, and extending the ball forward. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cue: 'Drive your feet, not your head.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to maintain their balance and generate power through proper tackling technique, allowing them to break tackles and gain extra yards.
