Strengthening the St. Frances Academy Panthers' O-Line: The Anchor Drill
As the St. Frances Academy Panthers prepare for the upcoming season, their O-line coaches are focusing on developing the strength and technique necessary to dominate on the gridiron. One key drill to help achieve this goal is the Anchor Drill. This exercise targets the player's ability to anchor and control their opponent, a crucial skill for success in the trenches. To set up the drill, have the OL player line up in a three-point stance with a partner or coach in a defensive stance. On the whistle, the player must explode forward, engaging their core and driving their feet into the ground. The coach or partner should resist with a firm grip, providing a realistic simulation of game-like resistance. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick bursts of energy and controlled anchoring. This drill translates to game performance by teaching OL players to maintain their position and control their opponent, even in the face of intense pressure.
