Good Counsel Falcons WRs: Master the 'Release and Run' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Good Counsel FalconsยทMonday, July 13, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The 'Release and Run' drill is a crucial exercise for Wide Receivers at WCAC programs like Good Counsel Falcons. This drill focuses on developing a smooth release off the line, creating separation, and accelerating down the field. To run this drill, set up cones 5 yards apart, with a defender at each cone. The receiver starts 5 yards off the line, then releases onto the defender, focusing on a quick, explosive step. After releasing, the receiver runs through the cones, maintaining top-end speed. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'Quick feet, quick hands' and 'Release, don't react.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to create separation and accelerate past defenders, making them a more effective target for the quarterback.
