FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Quince Orchard Cougars' RB Power Drill

๐Ÿ“ Quince Orchard CougarsยทMonday, July 20, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Quince Orchard Cougars' running backs are gearing up for a dominant 4A season. One key drill that will help them achieve their goal is the 'Power Through Contact' exercise. This drill focuses on building strength and explosiveness at the point of attack. To set up the drill, divide the RBs into pairs with one player as the ball carrier and the other as the defender. The ball carrier will start in a three-point stance with the defender standing in front of them. On the coach's signal, the ball carrier will explode forward, lowering their body to make contact with the defender. The defender will then try to bring the ball carrier down. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive hips' and 'drive through the defender.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to maintain their balance and power through contact, allowing them to break tackles and gain extra yards.
